Obituary for William Josephus Chambless Jr.

W. J. Chambless (Bill) passed away on Feb. 20, 2023, two months shy of his 100th birthday. He was born in Red Oak, OK on April 13, 1923, to William J. Chambless and Ida E Fowler Chambless. He was the youngest of 5 siblings, and spent his childhood in Oak Grove, LA. He served 3 years in the Army Air Force in the South Pacific theater during World War II. After graduating from Louisiana State University and attending University of Texas after the war, Bill spent his career as a Certified Public Accountant in the oil and gas industry in Pampa, Texas from 1957 until 1985. Bill was an elder in the First Presbyterian Church in Pampa and enjoyed singing in the choir. He achieved 32nd degree as a Mason and lived his life to the highest moral standards and treated everyone he met with courtesy and respect. He was married to the love of his life, Bonnie Allen Chambless, for 59 years before she succumbed to cancer in 2011. After retiring they moved to Horseshoe Bay, Texas where he spent many happy days playing golf and enjoying life. For many years, he was a member of the choir at the Church of Horseshoe Bay. He also was a charter member of the Highland Lakes Men's Chorus, which was begun in 1997. Bill spent his last years in Longhorn Village Retirement Facility in Austin, TX. He loved reading, crossword puzzles, word games and card games. Bill credited his long life with daily walks and exercise which he kept up throughout his life. He is survived by his daughter, Tammy Chambless of Dallas, and his son, David Chambless of Phoenix.
