Obituary for Victor Peter Neshyba

Victor Peter Neshyba, Jr., 75, died peacefully on February 22, 2023 in Austin, Texas.

He was born in Quantico, Virginia, to Victor and Mary (Gwazdacz) Neshyba and was the oldest of 9 kids. Vic grew up on a family farm in Ft. Worth, Texas until highschool when he moved to the Chicago area to attend Minor Seminary. He served a first tour in Vietnam while in the Army. He then received an economics degree from the University of Houston on the G.I. Bill. Afterwards, he received a commission to the Marine Corps and returned to Vietnam for a second tour. He had a long career in the Marine Corps working primarily as an intelligence officer. After 20 years of military service he retired at the rank of Major.

He married Elizabeth (Hemmi) on January 8, 1972 and they were together 51 years. Vic is survived by her, their son Trey and his wife Monica (Vasquez) Neshyba, their son Patrick, their daughter Amber and her husband Paul Thompson, as well as his grandchildren Everett and Arden. He is also survived by a wonderful and large extended family, all of whom he loved very much.

He was a member of Saint Catherine of Siena Catholic Church where he was at one time on staff working in community outreach. He served as Grand Knight of the local Knights of Columbus chapter and was a Boy Scout Scoutmaster for several troops. He also occupied his time with a variety of charity organizations.

In life Vic loved many things: traveling on road trips (but not flying!), visiting friends and relatives, sharing stories and family history, camping with a good campfire, national parks, meteor showers, reading, and coffee. He had a range of hobbies over his life including ham radio, astronomy, working on cars, photography, and woodworking. He loved tinkering and could fix just about anything.

Many rightly describe him as a man who was generous, sacrificing, caring, organized, smart and loving. This along with his passion for family and friend reunions shows just how much he loved life and the people in his life. And he was a man loved by many.
