Obituary for Philip Fred Orr

Philip Fred Orr (78) passed peacefully in his sleep on May 15, 2022, at Christopher House in Austin, Texas, with his wife Jerie Orr at his side. Philip or Beno (a nickname given to him by his family) was born on November 25, 1943, in Austin, Texas to Fred and Eugenia Orr, or as we know them, Matie and Patie.

Philip attended Travis High School in Austin where he met Jerie. They married on April 9, 1962. Philip was a manager with Southwestern Bell for 29 years. He and Jerie spent many hours volunteering as Pioneers with AT&T. Philip enlisted in the Navy Reserves in 1961 serving two years active duty and six years inactive duty. During this time he and Jerie lived in several different places, including Port Smith, Virginia and Mayport, Florida.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Matie and Patie, sister, Betsy Collins, sister, Judy Muery who is survived by her husband Talley, son Philip who is survived by his wife Marcy, grandsons, Justin Orr and Brandon Orr. He is survived by his wife, Jerie of Manchaca, daughter Lisa Lincoln and husband Anthony of Florence, and son Paul Orr and wife Jill of Dripping Springs. He is also survived by sister Myrna Smith and husband Paul of Georgetown, brother Tim Orr and wife Carol of Driftwood, and brother Tom Orr and wife Carolyn of Cost. Philip and Jerie have been blessed with several grandchildren, with whom Philip was extremely proud of, including, Cody Orr, Alexis Orr, Phillip Orr, Noah Orr, Mackenzi Lincoln, Madelyn Orr, and Dawson Orr. They also have several great grandchildren, including the newest addition to the family, Greyson Tate Orr.

Philip loved collecting treasures to repair and refurbish including numerous lawnmowers. There wasn't anything he couldn't fix, just as long as you didn't want it back in a hurry and were okay with a few leftover parts. He also loved spending time with his favorite four-legged children, Sassy and Gray. He and Jerie spent much of their time worshipping their grandkids and supporting them at many of their events. Philip was the kind of person who never met a stranger, was a notorious heckler; and never ran out of stories to pester his nurses and doctors until the very end. Philip was very proud of his marriage with Jerie, their love spanning over 60 years.

The family of Philip would like the extend their deepest thanks to those at Christopher House, Texas Oncology, and Hospice Austin for their diligent caregiving and services provided to Philip and his family in the time leading up to his passing. Jerie would like to convey her greatest thanks to her children Lisa and Paul and their families for helping her care for Philip in his final days. The family would also like to extend they're thanks to the family, friends, and neighbors for their friendship and support. Should you want to make an in-memoriam donation in lieu of flowers, please direct your contributions to Christopher House or Sports Vision 20/20.
