Obituary for Patricia Martha Byous

Patricia Martha Laughlin Byous passed away on Friday, December 9, 2022, in Buda, TX. She was born on May 17, 1937, in Port Arthur to Allen Ferguson Laughlin and Marie Ory Foote Laughlin.

Pat graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in Houston in 1955. In 1952, Pat met the love of her life. She was working at Cannon's Clothing Store in Galveston, in the hosiery department. John Byous was a shoe salesman at the same store. John always said it was a match made in heaven! They married on December 3, 1955, and started their life together in Houston.

In 1959, they were blessed with their first child, a daughter, Donalyn Marie. She was truly a golden child, and was treasured and loved as an only child for over five years. Then, in quick succession, John and Pat added three little girls to their family: Terry Lee in 1964, Rhonda Kay in 1965, and Stacy Ann in 1966.

Pat loved being a housewife, homemaker, and loving mother to her four girls. Later, after moving to San Antonio, she briefly returned to retail sales, working in children's shoes at Foleys. But ultimately, she decided that taking care of home and hearth was where her heart was, and she left the business world for good.

Pat is preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Donalyn Wagner, her parents, her sisters Joan Benchoff and Carolyn Lang, and her brothers Allen Laughlin, Jr., Donald Laughlin, and John Laughlin. She is survived by her husband of 67 years John Byous, her sister, Elaine Rials, her daughters Terry Koenig, Rhonda Chaffin, and Stacy Byous (Fred Aus), and her son-in-law Larry Wagner (Donalyn). She is also survived by her grandchildren Benjamin Klumpp (Mary Elise Grassmuck), Christiane Flowers (RaShon), Dylan Chaffin, Cortland Koenig, and Case Koenig, and great-granddaughters Sofia Flowers, Dallas Flowers, Leona Klumpp, and Sierra Flowers (debuting February, 2023).

We would like to thank Father Jesse, Father Sam, and everyone at Santa Cruz Catholic Church and School for their kindnesses to Mom during these trying times, and for the support of the family. We greatly appreciate the support and prayers from countless friends and coworkers during these many difficult years. We felt them and they gave us peace.
