Park
Albert
Slate
Park Albert Slate was born on June 3, 1928 in New London, CT, and passed away on December 1, 2022 at the age of 94. Park was the son of Charlotte (Everts) and Charles Slate.
Park was predeceased by his wife Eleanor Mary Slate (Dolinsky), his sons, Park Albert Jr. and Donald Edward, and his daughter Wilma Francis. He is survived by his daughters Irene Lancaster (m. Billy), Diana Renz, Karen Smith (m. Guy), Eleanor Gesick (m. Ray), and his son John Slate.
Park joined the Navy in lieu of completing high school but later earned his GED. After four years in the Navy, he went on to a career in the Army. He retired as a CW 3. After retiring from the service, he went on to graduate from UTEP with a teaching certificate. He spent ten years teaching at Guillen Jr. High in El Paso, TX. Then, he retired from teaching, and took on one more profession, working at a golf course, which of course, was his dream job.
He was married to Eleanor Mary Dolinsky on 8-5-50. They spent just short of 65 years together. and had 8 children, 29 grandchildren, and 30 great grandchildren and counting. Ellie was the light of his life. They were true partners through life, and they are now together in the next.
Park's life revolved around his family. He and Ellie provided for 8 children on a shoestring, but still managed to haul their brood across the country every summer to Connecticut. He, more importantly, provided consistent love and support. He was an exemplary husband and father.
He will be remembered for his booming, and distinctive laugh, that was easily invoked. His love and devotion for his family was an example for the many people he interacted with over the course of his life as a husband, father, soldier, teacher, fisherman, golfer, and the many other hats he wore over his fruitful 94 years.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to New Haven Memory Care Facility for their loving care.
More importantly, the family would like to thank our sister, Irene Lancaster. She has been the person who stepped in and cared for our father with loving kindness, putting his needs before her own, just as he did for all of us. She has been our father's primary caregiver, and we love her more than we can say for her selflessness.
The family will be having a private Celebration of Life at a date yet to be determined.
