Obituary for Mary Sue Eubank

Mary Sue Eubank was born July 15, 1940, in Lufkin, Texas to Lily and Troy Mounce, Sr. She went to to her maker with her husband at her side on March 20, 2022.

Sue, as she preferred to be called, attended Port Neches-Groves high school. Following her graduation in 1958, she attended Lamar University where she met her future husband James Geen and was married just before graduation with a bachelor's degree in English. James and Sue raised two children, Jeffrey and Suzzane. Not done with here formal education, Sue earned a master's degree in English Literature from U T San Marcos, now called Texas State. Sue used perfect grammar and always stressed it. She wrote a book titled "How to Teach Writing" and began to give seminars to various school districts in Texas. She became well known and respected in the education community. From her humble debut in education, Sue earned national recognition by the USA Today Teacher of the Year team. Sue commented, "children have been, and are my life".

Following her retirement, she continued teaching for the Austin Community College. Sue was an active member of the DAR, Daughters of the American Revolution. About six years after James died, she met Richard (Rocky) Eubank. Both were widowed and soon became a couple in 2012. Rocky and Sue loved to travel. Destinations included Alaska, Panama, Hawaii, Branson, Orlando, and Mexico.

Sue was predeceased in death by her first husband, James Geen and three brothers.

Surviving members of her family are her husband, Rocky, daughter Suzanne, son Jeffrey, granddaughter, Shelby, sisters-in-law Constance Mounce and Adeline Mounce, cousins Martha Fox, Shirley Crowley and June Crowley

The family wishes to thank Carol Winkler and Brittney Nickel for her many years of care and love. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Manchaca United Methodist Church Education Fund.

Visitation will be held 6:00pm-8:00pm, Friday April 1, at Harrell Funeral Home of Austin. Services will follow 10:00am, Saturday, April 2, at Manchaca United Methodist Church. Burial will be 3:00pm, Sunday, April 3, at Center Cemetery in Harleton, TX.
