Obituary for Marvin Wallace Jones Sr

Marvin Wallace Jones Sr. went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at the age of 93 at the Granite Mesa Care Center in Marble Falls, Texas. Born August 25, 1929 in Live Oak County, Texas near George West. He married Grace Gruver on September 17. 1954. The two were married for 68 years.

Marvin has six children, twelve grandchildren and six great grandchildren. His children are Sharon McReynolds, Marvin "Wally" Jones Jr., Terry Jones, Brian Jones, Joy Heinen and Brianna Herring. He is also survived by his sister Doris Hatfield and brother Don Jones.

Marvin worked his entire career for Magcobar (Halliburton) in the South Texas oil & gas industry where he managed several drilling fluids plants. While employed at Magcobar he invented the automated "mud bazooka" which revolutionized the industry's method of mixing drilling mud. A version of his invention is still used worldwide today.

Marvin was first and foremost a man after God's heart. He spent much of his time in the Lord's work. For years, he and Grace did mission work in Mexico and Central America where they established churches. They also began a church in Beeville, Texas where they raised the family.

Marvin was a kind and gentle man. Always available with a smile. He loved to laugh and even though hard of hearing in his later years, enjoyed conversation with anyone. He was physically active all his life. In his last several years, he could be described as a young man in an old man's body. He was a carpenter/builder ... always with a project at whatever house he lived in. He did extensive repairs on the home in Beeville, TX and added a second floor to the cabin in Jeff Davis County, TX. He was a prolific writer of his thoughts, ideas and dreams. He was an enthusiastic student of eschatology.

Marvin will be buried in the Bluffton, Texas cemetery on Friday, January 13, 2023. Condolences for the family may be offered at www.harrellfuneralhomes.com.
