Obituary for Juanita "Janie" Davilla

It is with heavy hearts that we announce, following extended battles with multiple cancers, that loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Juanita "Janie" Davilla, has been called to her eternal home on Tuesday, February 7th, 2023, at the age of 84. Janie was born on April 11, 1938 in Austin, Texas to Clotilde and Andrew Rodela.

Janie was an integral part of providing services to the local community as an employee of the Health Department for over 30 years until her retirement. In her retirement, Janie loved to travel and especially enjoyed the thrill of a big casino win. She was also an avid videophile, somehow always keeping up with the latest video technology, so she could enjoy a broad variety of movies ranging from classics to her favorite, horrors, while covering her eyes with her trusty word puzzles.

Janie will be remembered for the impact she had on her large and loving family, whom she set examples for in independence, strength and humility, as she never lacked a smile for anyone. Janie was also engrained in the arts, known for her golden voice and possessing a beautiful tenor. She passed down her love of singing and music to her children and grandchildren, while never neglecting the message of hard work. She was intense but also extremely humorous, never lacking a practical joke or laugh even until the very end.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Raul "Roy" Davilla, Sr, as well as siblings, Mary Jessie, Isabel, Raymond, Pete, Josie and Sonny.

Janie is survived by her partner, Willie; her daughters, Gloria Borrego, Margaret Rios, Irma Guillory; her son, Ralph Davilla, Jr.; 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Please join us in remembrance of an extremely unique soul as we celebrate the life and impact of Janie.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Thursday, February 16, 2023, at Harrell Funeral Home of Austin. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM Thursday.

The Rite of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, February 17, 2023, in the Harrell Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery. A Reception will follow at Harrell Funeral Home from 12:00 pm until 3:00 pm.
