Obituary for Janice M. Thurman

Janice Thurman, beloved Wife, Mother and Sister, was called home on July 18, 2022, at the age of 72. She entered this world on November 4, 1949, in Saint Cloud, MN, born to Walter and Elsie Thiem and was preceded in death by both. Janice is survived by her husband of 46 years, Jeff Thurman Sr.; son Jeff Thurman Jr. and wife Kristeen; daughter Jamie Thurman-Perez and husband Simon; 8 Grandchildren; Skilar, Spencer, Calyssa, Isacc, Ciyera, Breanna, Alyna, Daleia; 2 Brothers, Harold Thiem, David Thiem; 3 Sisters, Carolyn Kirkland, Linda Thompson and Margaret Haffelder and 18 Nieces and Nephews.

Janice was born in St. Cloud Minnesota and moved to Texas with her parents at the age of 4. She met Jeff at the age of 23 at Charlie's steakhouse in Pflugerville and they were married 3 years later on October 22, 1976 and have lived in Austin ever since.

Janice was a fiery 5-foot 1 blonde who was extremely independent, amazingly intelligent and fueled by determination once she set her mind to get something done. She always poured her heart and soul into tasks with the mentality "if you're going to do something, do it right". A mindset instilled in her by her dad and passed down to her children. She loved to get her nails and hair done and you would never catch her unprepared to face the day.

She loved to dance, sew, thrift shop, her charm bracelets and her mini perfume collection, but most of all she loved her family. She always made sure that things were fair and if one person got something, so did the others.

Janice touched the hearts and lives of many and was greatly loved by family and friends. She will be dearly missed, but never forgotten as we keep her legacy alive in each and every one of us through shared stories and traditions.

Our family would like to sincerely thank everyone for the support, prayers and memories shared during this time.

Visitation will be from 6:00 pm-8:00 pm on Monday July 25, 2022, at Harrell Funeral Home of Austin, 4435 Frontier Trail. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 am on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, also at Harrell Funeral Home, with burial following at Live Oak Cemetery.
