Obituary for James William McDowell

James William "Jimmy" McDowell, 84, of Sunset Valley, TX, passed away on September 12, 2022, hours before his 85th birthday. He was born in Austin, Tx, on September 13, 1937. Son of Ethel and Vivian McDowell.

He attended Austin High School in Austin, Tx. He was a paint contractor and painted local businesses as well as the inside of the Capital of Texas building. His great work ethic and attention to detail made him one of the best in Austin. If you worked for him, you had to arrive early and wear white painter pants.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, and sister. At the time of his death, he was survived by his beloved wife, Betty Ann McDowell, who passed away on September 16, 2022. Their marriage was for eternity, so they went to heaven together. He is survived by son and daughter-in-law Rodney and Janet McDowell, daughters Vicki McDowell Sanchez, Beverly McDowell Monday & Sharon Law Page. He's also survived by his grandchildren Amy, Trey, Will, Cody, Ashley & Courtney. Great grandchildren James, Ryder, Ridge & Ashlyn.

Jimmy was the first to arrive at the party and the last to leave. He was always the life of the party and lived life to the fullest. He adored the Texas Longhorns and Dallas Cowboys. He also loved to hunt & play golf as well as spend time with family and friends.

As Frank Sinatra once quoted: A man who had good friends, a fine family - I don't think I could ask for anything more than that.

Visitation will be held Thursday, September 22, 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Harrell Funeral Home, 4433 Frontier Trail, Austin, Tx 78745. The service will be held on Friday, September 23, at 1:00 p.m. Immediately following is the burial at Onion Creek Memorial Park, 11610 Chapel Lane, Austin, Tx 78748.
