Obituary for Hugh Sidney Clark

Hugh Sidney Clark, 83, passed away to be with the Lord on June 25th, 2022 with family by his side in his son's home in Buda, TX.

He was born in Johnson City, TN on October 6th, 1938 to George and Ethel Clark.

Hugh was truly a 'Jack of all Trades'. In the workforce he was a plumber, electrician, wood worker, carpenter, painter, apartment manager, and videographer. In his free time, you would find him playing ping pong, poker, Intellivision, organ, and golf. He liked to try out the latest 'crafty' activity be it sewing, macrame flower pot holders, painting plaster of paris figurines, creating plastic canvas items with multicolored yarn, bedazzling pants and hats, or oil painting using the Bill Alexander Magic White technique.

Hugh loved getting the latest technology (as much as the budget would allow.) He loved getting one of the early VHS VCR machines along with the latest video camera. He was always taking video of 'something'. His VHS home movie library was extensive! He had one of the early 'big screen' TVs (which was done via mirrors and lens.) He was proud of his sound system especially the wooden cabinet that housed it (which he re-upholstered with red felt fabric himself.) All this technology came together as Hugh would routinely videotape the Christmas and Easter musicals performed at Glad Tidings in Long Beach, CA. He continued this tradition at Westoak Woods in Austin, TX.

Along with all this, Hugh was a cook. He didn't cook from a cookbook too much (unless it was a recipe suggested by the latest kitchen gadget he purchased). Instead, he relied on old country recipes handed down throughout the years. Among the dishes he liked to make: pressure cooker fried chicken and potato wedges, salmon patties, fried rice, corned beef and cabbage, meatloaf to die for, and fired fruit pies. In fact, he did his fair share of baking as well, making all matter of cakes, pies, donuts, fudge and candy throughout the years.

Hugh was married to Phyllis A. Clark (Steadings) for 53 years. They first lived in Johnson City, TN before moving to California for 24 years. In 1994 they made their home in Austin, TX where they were active members of the Westoak Woods Baptist Church. Hugh enjoyed going on cruises, and looked forward to going on the newest ships to the fleet. Often their trips included taking members of their family along with them.

Hugh is survived by his wife, Phyllis Clark; his sons, Sid Clark and wife Michele; Roger Clark and wife Judy; Harold Clark and wife Andrea; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his daughters Janice Clark and Lisa Clark.

A memorial service is scheduled for Wednesday, June 29th at 2 p.m. at the Westoak Woods Baptist Church. Flowers may be received at the church.
