Obituary for Helen Virginia Benner

Helen Virginia Benner passed away on April 13, 2022 at the age of 90.

Helen was born on October 19, 1931 in Dickson, Tennessee. At the age of 16, she moved to Austin, Texas to work for her sister's restaurant "The Dixie Grill". Several years later she went to work for the Brown School as a dorm mother until she retired in 1994. Helen loved to work in her garden with her plants and spend time with her friends at one of their favorite watering holes such as the Frontier Drive Inn, the Hanging Tree, or the Horseshoe Lounge. Helen moved from Austin, Texas to her lake house in Spicewood, Texas in 1994 after retirement.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband Frank August Benner Jr, father John Smith and mother Mary Agnes Edna Smith, her siblings William (Bud) Smith, Sadie McCandless, Guy Smith and Walker Smith. She is survived by her daughter Maryann Callahan Jarutowicz, Son-in-law Glenn Jarutowicz, Grandson Clayton Jarutowicz and great granddaughter Gracen Jarutowicz, nephew Jimmy McCandless and wife, Valyn, niece Sandra McCandless, nephew Larry Wagner, and great nephews Joseph Rodriguez, Mike Lumbley and Scott McCandless and a great niece Amber Winsborough. Helen was beloved by her family, as well as her many long-time friends.

Her family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful staff at West Oaks Nursing Home where she received genuine loving care the last 8 years of her life.

A celebration of life will be held at the Recreation Hall in Spicewood Beach for family and friends to share stories and say their goodbyes on June 4, 2022 from 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm.

Helen will be laid to rest with her brother Bud, sister Sadie and mother Mary Agnes at the Live Oak Cemetery in Manchaca, Texas.
