Obituary for Grayson Lenier Turner

It is with heavy hearts that we are laying to rest our son, Grayson Lenier Turner Jr. who left us on September 24th, 2022 at the young age of 19 years old. His life was tragically cut short that night by a reckless driver. Grayson Jr. was born on March 18, 2003 in Cook County, Illinois to Cherylyn White and Grayson L. Turner.

At a very young age Grayson Jr. and his mother moved to Fort Hood, TX where his father was stationed in the Army. In 2005, he welcomed his newborn sister, Mailen into the world by saying, "that's it"?! In 2010, the family moved again to the Austin, Texas suburb of Buda. Grayson Jr. would spend the rest of his young life here making friends who loved him dearly and unconditionally.

He first attended Buda Elementary School upon arrival to the area. This is when he first began to play organized football with the Buda Rebels youth team. The following year he played for the Buda Bandits in their first season as a team before going to the North Hays Gators and playing there for multiple seasons. Grayson Jr. attended Dahlstrom Middle School for his 6th and 7th grade year before being rezoned and attending Barton Middle School for his 8th grade year. As a Freshman at Jack C. Hays High School, Grayson Jr. played football and basketball. He'd later transfer to William B. Travis High School in Austin.

Growing up, Grayson Jr. would often spend his summer and winter breaks in the Chicagoland area to be with family and friends. At the age of 15, Grayson Jr. acted on his love for music and began recording songs, performing, and even recording music videos. This passion for art has allowed him to openly express himself in different ways and create new friendships. Grayson Jr. also loved bike riding with his Uncle Walter and became a master fisherman at a young age. He was a great swimmer and would often find himself at the San Marcos River.

People knew him by many names; Grayson, Grayson Jr., Junior, Pogi, Jupee, Juice, and Menace. He was loved as a son, a brother, and as a friend. No matter how you knew him, or what you knew him by, he was always a lot of fun to be around with his easy going demeanor and calm voice. He always lived his life the way he wanted to, free and unbothered. His energy could light up any room he walked in.

Grayson Jr. is survived by his beautiful daughters Jaylani and Aiyanna, parents Grayson and Cherylyn, sister Mailen, grandparents Donna and Alpha, Walter and Rose, and great-grandmother Bettye. Also left to cherish his memory are aunts & uncles Walter IV, Little Walt, Brittany, Nkulee, Sabrina, Christian, Chelsea, Braxton, Sydney, and a host of beloved cousins and friends.

Grayson was preceded into eternity by grandmother Charlita White, grandfather Owen Radcliffe, great grandfather Beryl Turner Jr, uncles Walter White III, Beryl Turner III, and cousin My'an Mack.

Grayson Jr. will be missed more than any words can ever express.

If we've missed recognizing anyone please charge it to our heads and not our hearts.
