Obituary for Gilbert Osorio

Gilbert Osorio JR., 73 of Austin, TX, passed away on June 13, 2022 at his residence.

Born on July 18, 1948 in Austin to Guadalupe R. Osorio and Gilbert SR.

On August 25, 2015, he married the love of his life Estella Rodriguez.

Gilbert enlisted in the Army after graduating from Johnston High School in 1966. He was stationed at Fort Belvoir, VA and received the ranking of Specialist 1. He served for 4 years and was honorably discharged. After the Army, he worked for Austin American Statesman as a delivery driver. Later, he had a career as a Capital Metro bus driver and retired in 2018. He bought his dream car - a red Corvette. In it, he and his wife would enjoy traveling. He loved surfing the net on his computer and watching old school shows like Bonaza, All in the Family, and GunSmoke. Gilbert was a man of little words but his actions spoke volumes of who he was as a person. Those who knew him best knew he didn't like be fussed about or to be the center of attention. He dedicated his Sundays to spend time with his Aunt Andrea, who he loved very dearly. He helped when asked and gave what he could without expecting anything in return. His absence has been difficult and he will be missed dearly by his wife, family, and friends.

Gilbert is survived by his wife Estella Osorio and her family, his aunt Andrea Rodriguez, his uncle Richard Rodriguez, his only brother Carlos Osorio (wife Jennifer) and their daughter Margaret Glennon (husband James Blair), daughter Catherine Osorio and son Hunter Osorio; his two daughters from his first marriage: Elizabeth Osorio and her children Sabrina Michelle Padilla, John Michael Padilla II, and Monica Padilla, his daughter Victoria Obregon-Osorio (wife Rosalinda) and their children Fabian Vichon Bryant and Ramon Kal'El Bryant, his two step-daughters from his second marriage: Alejandra Castillo, Patricia Melgar-Cook (husband Kevin) and their children Hannah Melgar-Cook and Emma Melgar-Cook, and his only great-granddaughter Catalina Mae Summers.

He is preceded in death by his mother Guadalupe R. Osorio and father Gilbert SR, his grandmother Anselma Rodriguez, his grandfather Jose Rodriguez SR, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

His wife Estella and all of his family would like to thank St. David's Hospice, as well as the nurses for their care and support in his last moments. Also, thank you to Harrell Funeral Home for respectfully helping us during this difficult time.

Due to Gilbert's final wishes, there will be no rosary, viewing, or church service. He will be cremated and will be buried in a private ceremony at Assumption Cemetery next to his mother Guadalupe.
