Obituary for Gael Marie Murdoch (Hansell)

Gael Marie Hansell Murdoch was called to the Lord on Saturday, March 19, 2022, after complications from an aneurysm and subsequent fall.
 
Gael was born on Christmas Day 1961 to Charles D. and Helen Wiegers Hansell in Stamford, Connecticut. She is survived by her husband, Steven P. Murdoch; her sisters Carol (brother-in-law Roy) Barber and Lora Bennett; nephew Aaron Barber and nieces Nina and Amelia Bennett; mother-in-law Shirley Murdoch; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Mark and Charlene Murdoch, Bill and Maureen Bradley, Patrick and Anne Bedford, and Kevin and Carlos Murdoch; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Gael was preceded in death by her parents; father-in-law Duane Murdoch; her grandparents Joseph and Adeline Wiegers and George and Bessie Hansell; and her niece Claire Barber.

Gael was a strong presence in the lives of all who knew her. She loved music, especially the bands U2 (she attended 38 of their concerts) and Simple Minds, scuba diving, traveling to Scotland, Texas campouts, river tubing trips, hiking, holistic health, and so much more. She and Steve shared many adventures together, including numerous diving trips in the Caribbean and climbing to the top of Big Bend National Park. Gael loved all her family members and friends.

A Viewing will be held at Harrell Funeral Home at 4435 Frontier Trail, Austin, Texas, 78745, on Monday evening, March 28, from 6:00-8:00 pm, with a Rosary at 7:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be said at 10:30 am on Tuesday, March 29, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 10205 N. FM 620, Austin, Texas, 78726.

The family wishes to thank Hospice Austin and their caregivers, especially Erin, Ginny, Maria and Sheena, for their kind, expert care of Gael and of her immediate family.
