Obituary for Evelyn Mae Hawkins

Evelyn Mae Haug Hawkins passed on to be with the Lord on January 14, 2023, at the age of 82.

Service Information: Visitation will be held Wednesday January 18, 2023, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Harrell Funeral Home at 4435 Frontier Trail, in Austin, Texas. A celebration of her life will be held Thursday January 19, 2023, 10:00 a.m. at Harrell Funeral Home. Interment and graveside service will follow at 2:00 pm at Rosemound Cemetery in Waco, Texas.

Evelyn was born on May 7, 1940, in Marlin, Texas to Alvin Haug and Esther Schmalz. She graduated from Riesel High School and attended Durham's Business School. She retired from the Dripping Springs Post Office after 31 years of service.

Evelyn was a gifted piano player and served over the years in her church and, later in the nursing home with her ministry of music. She was a farm girl at heart and loved being outdoors tending her pecan orchard, sheep, and various other animals.


She was a fifth generation Texan and was an avid horse racing fan.
She enjoyed the "Trifecta" of celebrating Mother's Day, her birthday, and the Kentucky Derby all in the same weekend every year.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Ralph Wallace Haug, and husband of 45 years Julius Bill Hawkins, Jr.

She is survived by her son Bryan Hawkins and wife Michelle, son Robert Hawkins and wife Paula, and daughter Kathryn Hawkins Shaw and husband Timothy; Grandchildren: Matthew Hawkins and wife Kami, Lauren Hawkins Sanford and husband Wade, Colton Hawkins and wife Hannah, Kendall Shaw, and Samantha Shaw; Great Grandchildren: Amelia Hawkins, Alora and Kinley Sanford, as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.

The family would like to send a special heartfelt thanks to all the health care providers with Sunshine Senior Living and Enhabit Hospice of San Antonio for the love and kind care she received.
