Obituary for Danny Lee McDaniel
Danny Lee McDaniel was born on June 23, 1947 to Casner & James McDaniel and passed away on March 1, 2022. He was the youngest of six children. Danny graduated from Thorndale High School in 1965. He was raised in a farming family, and raised and showed hogs to earn money to pay for his barber school.
Danny and his brother Monty McDaniel opened Monty & Danny's Barber Shop on South Congress Avenue in Austin, where he worked for more than 50 years, retiring in 2016. Over the years, Danny had many loyal customers who were also dear friends. Even after his retirement, some would drive to his home in Kyle to get their haircut and share stories.
Danny married his wife Sheila February 9, 2016 in one of his favorite places, Las Vegas. Danny and Sheila reconnected after 50 years, having dated as teenagers. Danny enjoyed horse-racing, spending time with family and friends, and he never met a dessert he didn't like.
Danny was preceded in death by his parents Casner & James McDaniel, his brother James "Dick" McDaniel and sister Laverne McDaniel. Danny is survived by his wife, Sheila, his sisters Nancy Leggett and Delores Lightsey, his brother Monty McDaniel, his daughter, Ginger Webber, son-in-law August Webber, granddaughters Rachel & Claire Webber, his stepdaughters Erin (Michael) Zwillman, Betty (Albert) East, Steffiney Black, Amity (Tim) Speedy, and Dara (Brett) Pearson, numerous step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and countless friends.
The family would like to thank Concho Hearts for their compassionate care and support in Danny's final days.
Visitation will be 10:00AM to 11:00AM on Friday, March 11, 2022 at Harrell Funeral Home, 4435 Frontier Trail, Austin, TX. Services will be 11:00AM at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Locklin Cemetery in Thorndale around 1:00PM.
