Obituary for Barbara Jean Harris

Barbara Jean Harris. February 8, 1947 to August 29, 2022

Barbara went home to dance joyfully in heaven on August 29, 2022. In her time on earth, Barbara was spectacular. She was kind and loving, generous and selfless. She spent her entire life helping others. From a tiny baby, not given very good odds, she was always a fighter! She was always a champion for the underdog.

Growing up on a small farm in Temperance Michigan, with three brothers and a sister, she was no stranger to hard work. She would tickle your funny bone with so many stories from her childhood. She loved God and her family fiercely, first and before all things. She retired from Bedford Public schools after 37 amazing years with a career in education, first as a teacher and then as an administrator. She was a member of the Beta Rho chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma. She held an appointment on the board of LCBA and served alongside her mother for many years. She was also a member of the Bedford education Association and the Michigan education Association. She spent the majority of her life dedicated to the education of others. She was a revered educator and after retirement in 2010, a beloved volunteer at many of her grandchildren's schools, earning the honor of volunteer of the year several times. She was never happier than when she was teaching a struggling child to read or finding a creative way to teach you a math problem, or making up a song to help you remember your spelling words. She accomplished much in her 75 years of life but she would tell you her greatest accomplishment was her three children and their families. Her legacy of love and education impacted thousands of families and if you ever had the pleasure of having a single conversation with her, you are definitely better for it.

She is survived by her lifelong friend Michael P Harris and their children. Melissa T Borowicz (Ted), Rebecca J Davidson (Micah), and Michael P Harris II (Jennifer). She is also survived by her adopted children Annabel Durbin (Dave) and Paul Chang (Yugi), And her four siblings Dottie Zimmerman, Jim Uhl, Mike Uhl, and Robert Uhl and most cherished legacy, she leaves 14 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. She joined her parents Bernard (BB) Uhl and Margret Laskey Uhl in heaven on her father's Birthday. A celebration of life will be held in Austin Texas on September 25, 2022 and Temperance Michigan on October 1, 2022. In Lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the RealLife Church Children's Ministry Backpack Drive. 13701 FM 1826, Austin, TX 78737
